Sam has been practising Iyengar Yoga for over 25 years. Her journey into yoga began in her 20’s whilst travelling through Asia and Australia and it has been a constant in her life ever since. It is since Sam’s three children are older that she has trained as an Iyengar yoga teacher. Sam has a particular interest in restorative yoga, where yoga is used to counteract stress and it’s associated problems, both physical and mental. This has led to the development of a programme to help women during menopause, where restorative yoga is a very effective tool.
about Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar yoga has a strong focus on alignment and precision. The postures are held for longer than in other styles of yoga, which gives tight muscles time to lengthen and relax and allows students to work safely within their own limitations. Props such as blocks and chairs are used so the poses can be achieved by all types of people with all types of bodies. Yoga is made accessible to all. Classes include standing poses, forward extensions, backbends, twists and build to include inversions and arm balances. These varied movements develop the body in different ways; strengthening, energising, calming and grounding. Posture improves as well as body awareness and concentration. A harmonious mind and body experience.
Sam teaches weekly at local venues listed in the classes section of this website. She also teaches at David Lloyd Fitness Centres, Virgin Active, The Laboratory Health Clubs, Goldman Sachs, The Canadian High Commission and The Iyengar Yoga Studio East Finchley amongst others. Sam’s classes are fun and friendly but full of effort, fire or ‘tapas’. Group classes and private lessons available.
