Iyengar Yoga with Samantha Shaikh

“Yoga is meditation in action” BKS Iyengar
Hello – I’m Sam and I am approaching my 10th year teaching the holistic practice of Iyengar Yoga.
My classes are designed to empower and inspire, leading you along the eight fold path of yoga – a path that has been followed for many thousands of years to bring strength, vitality and balance to body, mind and spirit.
I have a particular interest in restorative yoga – a quiet, restful practice to bring tranquility in our fast paced world. This practice nourishes and quietens the nervous system, freeing us from overstimulation and tension.
I especially appreciate the benefits of yoga for women’s health, an area where much can be achieved to bring hormonal balance, clarity and calm.

My yoga journey
I went to my very first Iyengar Yoga class in Sydney, Australia back in 1996 totally by chance. I was taken by a friend and although I don’t recall much of what happened in the class, I remember very clearly how I felt afterwards – calm, steady and content.
I kept returning to the practice as alongside the physical benefits of increased strength and flexibility, the effects on my mood and emotions were profound. My mind became stronger and more flexible!
One of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching is helping my students to use yoga to counteract stress and anxiety in an increasingly demanding world.

BKS Iyengar made yoga accessible and relevant to people everywhere, no matter what their physical or mental ability. He studied and practised yoga continuously for 85 years.
