Iyengar Yoga with Samantha Shaikh

“Yoga is meditation in action” BKS Iyengar
“Hello, I’m Sam, and I’m in my 10th year of teaching the holistic practice of Iyengar Yoga.
My classes are designed to empower and inspire, guiding students along the eightfold path of yoga — a tradition followed for thousands of years to cultivate strength, vitality, and balance in body, mind, and spirit.
I have a particular passion for restorative yoga: a quiet, deeply supported practice that offers tranquility in our fast-paced world. Using the full range of props within the Iyengar system, restorative yoga helps to calm and nourish the nervous system, easing overstimulation, stress, and tension.
I’m especially passionate about the benefits of yoga for women’s health, where the practice can support hormonal balance, clarity, resilience, and calm.”

My yoga journey
I went to my very first Iyengar Yoga class in Sydney, Australia back in 1996 totally by chance. I was taken by a friend and although I don’t recall much of what happened in the class, I remember very clearly how I felt afterwards – calm, steady and content.
I kept returning to the practice as alongside the physical benefits of increased strength and flexibility, the effects on my mood and emotions were profound. My mind became stronger and more flexible!
One of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching is helping my students to use yoga to counteract stress and anxiety in an increasingly demanding world.

BKS Iyengar made yoga accessible and relevant to people everywhere, no matter what their physical or mental ability. He studied and practised yoga continuously for 85 years.
